BMW M5"I had been looking to buy a near new BMW M5. Before going to Team McMillan or Jerry Clayton I decided to check on UK prices. The difference between UK vs NZ official dealer prices for identical cars (inc options) was so remarkable to as to be more than an exchange rate “anomaly”. It seems there is just more competition for BMW in the UK –For me the exact same spec’d car was 30%+ cheaper. When your talking 100k plus that's a fair amount of coin to have NZ new. Getting access to UK priced cars however looked to be pretty daunting. Its a lot of money to just wire over to the UK and hope a car turns up 10 weeks later, not to mention having to organise the inspection, finding a dealer that will do the VAT refund, reputable internal UK car transporters, and then shipping companies that can not damage it in the container. Then there is insurance, bills of lading, NZ customs, licensing, GST and all sorts of other hidden hassles. I made enquiries through another NZ company that imports UK cars but didn’t get a feeling of confidence that they knew what they were doing or were not just ripoff merchants themselves. Finally through word of mouth I found Sanjay at Euro Autos. Sanjay is an expert in not just the major steps in the importing process, but also has great experience in a whole lot of minor gotchas and little tricks that UK dealers and various middlemen play that prevent you from getting the best deal possible. He took full control of the process including the initial price negotiation with the UK dealers (saving money already of the ticket price which was already very cheap by NZ standards). Throughout the entire process he communicates clearly and sets out in a detailed spreadsheet the costs and when payments are required. The whole excersize is very transparent including his fee, which for the amount of work he does in the middle of the night is very reasonable. From finding a car to having it on the road and loving it took 12 weeks. I would highly recommend any NZ buyer looking for a much better price on a same spec’d European car to consider Sanjay’s service. Its much better than the Corporate Cars, and much much better than paying full NZ retail at the NZ dealer. Simon Hope" |
